Fabric, Fit and Care

Fabric weights

We list jersey and fleece by weight in ounces per square yard. As a guide:

  • 6.5 to 7 oz: a standard tee weight. Light, drapes, dries fast.
  • 8 to 8.5 oz: heavyweight tee. Holds its shape, slightly stiff at first, softens with washing.
  • 11 to 12 oz: lightweight fleece or loopback terry. Spring and fall.
  • 14 to 16 oz: heavyweight fleece. Winter, or a jacket substitute.

Denim is listed the same way. 13.5 oz is a comfortable everyday weight. 14 oz selvedge, unwashed, will feel stiff for a few weeks.

How we size

All garment measurements are taken flat, in inches, on a size medium unless noted. Chest is measured one inch below the armhole, side to side. Length is measured from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem. Inseam runs from the crotch seam to the hem.

| Size | Chest (flat) | Tee length | Pant waist (flat) | |—|—|—|—| | XS | 20 | 26 | 14.5 | | S | 21.5 | 26.5 | 15.5 | | M | 23 | 27 | 16.5 | | L | 24.5 | 27.5 | 17.5 | | XL | 26 | 28 | 18.5 | | XXL | 27.5 | 28.5 | 19.5 |

Tees and fleece are cut boxy. If you prefer a closer fit, go down a size. Jackets are sized to fit over a hoodie, so take your usual size.

Care

Cotton jersey and fleece. Wash cold, inside out, with like colours. Tumble dry low or hang. Everything is pre-shrunk or garment-washed, so further shrinkage should be under 2 percent.

Garment-dyed pieces. Expect a small amount of surface dye to release in the first three washes. Wash separately until the water runs clear.

Denim. Wear raw denim for a few months before the first wash. After that, wash cold inside out and hang dry. Rinsed denim can be washed from day one.

Waxed cotton. Never machine wash. Sponge with cold water, hang away from heat, rewax yearly.

Wool. Dry clean. Between cleans, brush after wear and air out overnight. Store with cedar.

Leather. Wipe with a dry cloth. Condition once a year with a neutral balm. Keep away from radiators and direct sun.

Nylon. Wash cold, hang dry. Do not iron.

Repairs

All buttons, snaps and zippers we use are standard sizes that any tailor can source. If a seam fails within a year of normal wear, write to us with a photo and we will repair or replace it.
